6 Tips for Eating Out in Las Palmas
Las Palmas is a great place for eating out. Both the old town district (Triana and Vegueta) and the main beach area (Las Canteras) have a myriad of options. Here are some mouthwatering tips – solely based on our own experiences.
Qué Leche (Triana)
Must try: Cochinillo (baby pork)
A small, intimate restuarant in the old part of Las Palmas, serving modern Spanish food. The food is wonderfully fresh and creative, yet simple. Popular among the locals. Remember to book well in advance. Other great menu options include tuna (macerated with prawns and avocado) as well as the chicken and octopus dishes.
Macarena (Las Canteras)
Must try: Tuna tataki / Tuna carpaccio
Due to its lovely seafront location in the end of Las Canteras, it may look like a tourist trap, but it is not. Serves Canarian and Mediterranean food, but in a new tasty way. Very nice selection of delicious tapas-style dishes.
Kitchen Lovers (Las Canteras)
Must try: Duck (main course)
Small, lovely restaurant at the beachfront of Las Canteras. Offers a selection of hand made, delicious dishes, mostly based on Mediterranean fusion food. Very good starters. For a tasty, but not too heavy desert, try the pineapple with coco foam.
Casa Montesdeoca (Vegueta)
Must try: Steak / fresh fish
Mediterranean haute cuisine. Fantastic, tranquil setting in a historic courtyard with overhanging balconies. Fine dining with mid-range prices. Top class service. We usually just go for the waiter's recommendation – both the fish and the steaks have been top-notch every time.
Aji Limon y Canela (Las Canteras)
Must try: Ceviche de la casa
The place to find great Peruvian food in Las Palmas. A must-try if you have a craving for ceviche, served in an authentic way. Quite affordable, right in front of the Las Canteras beach.
Allende Triana / Allende Puerto (Triana / Las Canteras area)
Must try: Veal carpaccio
Two sister restaurants. Both excellent. Offer a diverse and interesting menu of great tasting food. The tapas selection is excellent and includes delicious options like tuna tataki, mini burgers, ceviche and more. The salads are also very good. Very reasonable prices – great value for money!
